Educational Technologist Multimedia Competencies
Over the last ten months, I’ve taken a new path in my educational journey by learning and growing my skillset as an Instructional Technologist. Over that time, a great deal of my growth has occurred through understanding how best to develop, analyze, and implement technology against the backdrop of educational needs for learners. In accordance with that goal, my competencies when using various forms of technology and multimedia have been established, improved, and in recent months, expanded due to my exposure to new forms of technical applications.
In terms of my relationship with technology, most of my background is self-taught and experiential based. My strengths have been built over the course of my professional career in a myriad of ways. From operating a lab and troubleshooting issues as a computer tech for my hometown, to assisting students and instructors at Southwest Texas Junior College as an Instructional Aide for the Distance Learning department, I’ve honed my skills based on the situations I’ve trained for and encountered over the years. I’m proficient with Microsoft based applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. I’ve trained using many of the applications of the Adobe Creative Cloud including Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects. I’ve utilized various LMS applications such as Black Board and Canvas as well as applications of the Ellucian ecosystem. Recently, I’ve learned more about and used communications software such as Teams, Collaborate, and Zoom.
Where I hope to improve and continue growth with my technical competency is with video editing software, web development, programming, and further exploration of cyber security measures. I plan to refine these skills by enrolling in additional programs and attaining certifications.
No matter the technical or instructional obstacles, I am confident in my development, and I look forward to applying my knowledge in ways that improve organizations in need of educational technologists with vast, and well-rounded competency.
